Destination Elopement: How To Do It + All-Inclusive Packages

When it comes to pulling together a destination elopement, there are so many things to consider. Where? When? How many guests? Guests at all? And then there are the destination-based questions of where to stay and what vendors to hire; it can all quickly get overwhelming.

That’s where we step in! We here at Promise Mountain have pulled off our fair share of destination elopements. So let us tell you what we know needs to be considered when taking on your special day.

How To Pull Off a Destination Elopement

Here are our tips for making sure your destination elopement is the success you want and deserve on one of the most important days of your life.

#1 - Book Travel, Accommodations, and Vendors Ahead of Time

You’re going to enjoy a destination elopement in a place you might not be incredibly familiar with, so you need to plan this all ahead of time. You need to know where you’re going, staying, eating, and doing while in this stunning destination you’ve decided on, from flights to accommodations.

Equally important is researching local vendors to ensure you can actually pull off the wedding. Things like a cake, bouquet, dinner, etc. Do your research and communicate thoroughly with them to make sure nothing is lost in the process of planning a wedding far away and far in advance.

#2 - Create a Wedding Day Schedule

Will everything go to plan? Probably not. Does that mean you shouldn’t have a plan? No! The point of planning is to prepare yourself for a whirlwind of a day; not planning means you’re swept up in the madness the ensues.

You need to take into consideration everything from the morning of the ceremony to the after-party. The point is to make sure that while not everything will be perfect, you’re giving room to it being as perfect as can be.

This means when things go wrong, you’re there with a backup plan and have prepped the troops to help save the day. From unforeseen weather difficulties, delays, misunderstandings, whatever the case may be, having a plan can save you a lot of headaches during your time abroad.

#3 - Invite A Small Group of Friends and Family Well Ahead of Time

Suppose you are planning on inviting friends and family. In that case, you need to budget them into the equation, and more importantly, you need to let them know ahead of time so they can do their own planning. Jetting off to another state, province, or country is a tall order, and most people can’t do it on a whim. Let your guests know where you plan to go and be specific so they can check their own accommodation, travel options, and visa requirements.

#4 - Pick Somewhere Where You Also Want to Spend Your Honeymoon

Don’t make a hasty decision and be stuck in a place that turns out to be incredibly dull. The last thing you want is to have an amazing wedding and then ruin it all by having a boring honeymoon stuck in a place with little to nothing to do.

#5 - Check Local Laws

You need to check local laws to see if you need a license, and if so, what do you need, where do you go, how long does it take, and are witnesses required? These are important questions because they can’t be left too long, or else you’ll be getting married in spirit, but it won’t be legally binding.
